Get to Know…
A San Diego native, Alyssa has spent the past decade-plus studying and working within California’s criminal justice system. Fluent in Spanish, Alyssa began her legal career at the San Diego Superior courts with Pretrial Services. Working primarily at the Chula Vista and downtown San Diego courthouses, she played an integral role in the first appearance of so many criminally accused, interviewing in-custody defendants and then making release recommendations to the judge.
During her undergraduate studies at San Diego State University, Alyssa participated in an in-person creative writing course for “lifers” at Donovan State Prison. Relocating to the Bay Area did not deflect Alyssa from her passion for criminal justice, as she soon began working with the Record Clearance Project, under Director, Margaret “Peggy” Stevenson. Even more impressive, she simultaneously obtained a Master’s degree at San Jose State University in Justice Studies and continued re-entry work where she delivered legal rights presentations to men and women at Elmwood County jail and throughout the Bay Area.
Alyssa once had a close family member spend a significant amount of time in prison and saw first-hand the effects incarceration can have on a family. Alyssa states she was drawn to the #LOODPS team due to the Firm’s honesty, zealous advocacy, and outstanding customer service. We are thrilled she decided to join our team!
