With a deep-rooted passion for justice and a natural ability to connect with people in their most vulnerable moments, Alexa Carney brings both empathy and efficiency to her role as a Legal Assistant at the Law Office of David P. Shapiro.
Originally from Colorado, Alexa graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, concentrating in Criminology and Criminal Justice, and a minor in Political Science. Shortly after graduation, she moved to San Diego to begin her legal career- starting at a well-known criminal defense firm, where she gained hands-on experience working closely with clients and attorneys.
Eager to broaden her legal perspective, Alexa briefly transitioned into civil law. While the experience added to her skill set, it ultimately reaffirmed what she already knew: her true passion lies in criminal defense. She thrives in the fast-paced, high-stakes environment and finds a deep sense of purpose in helping clients feel seen, supported, and empowered throughout the legal process.
Over the years, Alexa has built a strong foundation in criminal defense by combining her legal knowledge with a client-centered approach. Her background in both law and service has shaped her work ethic- organized, resilient, and always driven by compassion.
Outside of the office, Alexa is a certified Lagree Pilates instructor and finds joy in helping others grow stronger-physically and mentally. She believes movement is a powerful tool for self-regulation and clarity, which supports her ability to remain grounded and present for both her clients and team.
Alexa is proud to be a part of a firm whose values reflect her own- where integrity, respect, and compassion aren’t just words but guiding principles.
